F.A.Q.
When I talk to the people who read my books these are kind of
questions they usually
ask.
Q What made you decide to
become an author?
A I didn't really decide
I just wanted to try and found that I could do it. Everyone has
something special they can do. Some people find it very early in
their lives, others, like
me, find it later on.
Q From where do you get your
inspiration?
A From places, people, newspaper
stories, dreams, landscapes
a hundred things. If
you're a writer everything you see and do takes on a special
significance. I'm always
thinking 'Now could I make that into a book?'
Q Do you base your
characters on real people?
A Not consciously although
I suppose every character I create has a little bit of someone
I've seen or known in the course of my life.
Q What was your favourite
book when you were a child?
A Lord of the Rings
although I also loved, and still do love, The Lion the Witch and the
Wardrobe. When I was little I believed you could walk through a
door into another
world. In fact I still do. If you walk through the door of your
imagination you can go
anywhere you wish.
Q What do your family think
of you being an author?
A They were over the moon
when my first few books were published but now they've
got rather used to it and say 'Oh, Mum's got another book out
this week.'
Q Are you rich?
A Some authors are
enormously rich but I'm afraid I'm not one of them -
unfortunately!.
Q What is the favourite
book you've written?
A My favourite is Siren Song
because it's a very unusual story and took ages to write.
Q How long does it usually take
you to write a book?
A I usually write two a
year but sometimes, like my Just George series, I had to write six
in a year which was very hard work.
Q What advice would you give
someone who wants to be a writer?
A Work hard and
believe in yourself because if you don't, no-one else will!
